If I profess with the loudest voice and clearest exposition every portion of the Word of God except precisely that little point which the world and the devil are at that moment attacking, I am not confessing Christ, however boldly I may be professing Him. Where the battle rages, there the loyalty of the soldier is proved; and to be steady on all the battle fronts besides, is mere flight and disgrace if he flinches at that point.

How Truly Blessed We Are...

Dear Heavenly Father,

It is so easy for us to forget how truly blessed we are because of your presence in our lives. We are so blessed to be part of the body of believers. We ask that we always be mindful of how powerful you are and how different our lives are because of you. Please help us recognize the seriousness of those who are lost. Help us realize our mission. Please allow our eyes to be open to the true hopelessness and desolation out in the world so that we feel further motivated to bring your light to it.

As we gather today, we also ask for a few people, specifically. Please be with Mary, the woman from the market who has struggled with cancer. We pray that all of this cancer is fully removed. Thank you for being with her. We also lift up the Bleeke family to you, Lord. We pray that you will be with Jay's parents as they mourn the loss of a son. We thank you that he is home with you in heaven. Please be with his parents, family members and friends who will miss him dearly. We thank you for your power in our lives. We thank you for your love and mercy. In Jesus' Powerful and Holy name we pray, Amen.

The 72®—Partners on the Road – June 1-15

The 72—Partners on the Road is an outreach ministry of LCMS World Mission. Through The 72, trained volunteers help LCMS congregations through the process of analyzing, revitalizing, or initiating their outreach ministry.

Remember God’s work through The 72 ministry as you pray:

1. with thanksgiving for the more than 50 volunteers who serve throughout the LCMS as part of The 72—may the Lord continue to sustain them in their ministry as they share their passion for outreach and encourage others to share their faith in Jesus.

2. for open hearts and minds in the congregations that The 72 team members serve.

3. with thanksgiving for the members of congregations who open their homes to visiting team members—congregations who partner with a team from The 72 generously provide lodging and food for these volunteers.

4. with thanksgiving for congregations that have adapted their outreach strategies after training with The 72—many have made changes to the way they welcome visitors, continued prayer canvassing in their neighborhoods, re-focused their efforts on new member classes, and more.

5. for members of the LCMS throughout the United States, that they see themselves as missionaries to their community, called to share the Good News about Jesus with their neighbors, strangers, and friends.

6. for LCMS members in the Florida-Georgia and Minnesota South Districts who are partnering with a team of The 72 for four weekends in 2010—that the Lord would use them to reach out into their community with His love and message of salvation.

7. for safe travel for 35 individuals traveling to The 72’s new team training event at the Saint Paul Institute for Education in Concordia, Mo., which is today through June 11.

8. with thanksgiving for the 15 new team members of The 72 being trained for the first time today.

9. for the teaching team of The 72 who have served faithfully training new team members for effective partnerships in LCMS congregations.

10. for The 72 staff—Rev. Al Tormoehlen and Tina Kassebaum—that they would be strengthened and rejuvenated through the gathering of old friends and new friends at training and that God would bless their return to office work and work through them to establish many assignments with congregations in 2011.

11. for the new trainees of The 72—that they will not be overwhelmed with the amount of material received at the training and that the Lord would grant them joyful anticipation as they look forward to serving Him through this ministry.

12. for the partner districts, Florida-Georgia, Kansas, Minnesota North, Minnesota South, New England, Pacific Southwest, Rocky Mountain, South Wisconsin, Southeastern, and Southern, where The 72 will partner with congregations for strengthening LCMS members for effective outreach ministry.

13. in thanksgiving for a successful training event for The 72 and participants’ safe return home.

14. that the Holy Spirit would awaken a desire to pursue new outreach efforts within parts of the United States, where hearts recognize the need to share the hope that they have in Jesus with their neighbors.

15. for revitalization and hope where all teams of The 72 have served—that God would make them a visible testimony of His love in that place.

LCMS missionaries on home service – June 16-30

Every other year, international missionary families spend approximately two months in the United States on "home service." During this time, they reconnect with individuals, congregations, and other groups who support them in their mission work for mutual encouragement and celebration. Most also take vacation time to spend with their families.

Remember missionaries on home service in the United States as you pray:

16. for missionaries serving in Africa who will be on home service in 2010: Rev. David and Joyce Erber (West Africa), Rev. Jacob and Michelle Gillard (Uganda), Rev. Claude and Rhoda Houge (East Africa), and Rev. Shauen and Krista Trump (Uganda and East Africa).

17. for missionaries who serve in Asia as they complete their home service in 2010: Michelle and Sandro Cagnin (throughout Asia), Dennis and Monta Denow (throughout Asia), Deaconess Carol Halter (Hong Kong), Rev. Carl and Chen-Hsi Hanson (East Asia), Rev. Steve and Maggie Oliver (Taiwan), DCO Sharon Owens (Macau), Rev. Joel and Iantha Scheiwe (Hong Kong), Ed and Shauna Strohschein (Hong Kong), and Matt and Dee Dee Wasmund (Taiwan).

18. for those serving throughout Eurasia whose home service falls in 2010: Rev. David and Rachel Baker (Kazakhstan), DCE David and Radka Fiala (Slovakia), and two other families serving in a restricted-access location.

19. for missionaries who serve in Latin America and the Caribbean as they complete their home service in 2010: Rev. Ted and Rebecca Krey (Dominican Republic) and Rev. Ed and Cherie Auger (Cayman Islands).

20. for God’s hand to be involved in the details and logistical arrangements that are a necessary part of missionary home service, such as transportation and housing.

21. for missionary families to be able to visit as many congregations and other groups as possible, while managing their limited time in the United States.

22. for the Lord to guide missionaries as they prepare their presentations—ask Him to help them discern how best to share their stories and ministry news with those who have so faithfully supported their ministry.

23. for God to give missionary families emotional, physical, and spiritual strength as they travel to many locations, share with many supports, and meet many new friends—so that home service would be a joyous and encouraging time, despite rigorous schedules.

24. for God to protect missionaries as they travel throughout their home service.

25. for missionary children—or "MKs." Pray that God would provide them with places and opportunities to relax, get enough sleep, have family time with their parents, meet new friends, and feel that they are a vital part of their family’s ministry as they share about it with others.

26. that many congregations all over the United States would welcome missionaries into their churches for mission presentations, Sunday school, children’s messages, celebration luncheons, Bible studies, and other activities.

27. that congregations and other groups would experience a revitalized interest in mission prayer and financial support after visiting with missionaries face-to-face and hearing about ministry that God is accomplishing through them.

28. that through missionaries sharing their ministry experiences and joys during their home service, the Holy Spirit would challenge listeners to consider serving as a missionary themselves—in a short-term, long-term, or career capacity.

29. for the families of visiting missionaries—that they would be able to enjoy their time together and mutually encourage one another.

30. for God to comfort and sustain the missionaries who are not able to see family and friends in the United States this year—may the Holy Spirit comfort them with His presence and assurance of God’s calling to serve far from home.

31. for God to allow an easy transition to living back in the United States (even for a short time) with minimal effects of reverse culture shock as missionaries re-enter the U.S. for home service.
